My name is Lesli and I’m a country girl from North Florida now living in another country North of the border.

I started this project to log my rememberings of the skinny pines and emerald green water of the South and adventures suiting up in rubber boots to ride subways in Vancouver, B.C.. My husband studies, I work and we both navigate an ex-patriot life in a place that’s not that much colder than home.

This year, my kitchen is Jazzy, and I’m writing about Stanley Park. You can also find me on Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest where I post things that remind me of my two homes.

Thanks for reading and keep in touch!

Leslie… I look forward to reading about your adventures. The cakes look amazing!

  2. Good for you. And it’s not about temperature/climate either — it’s about how you feel within your community. Realizing the value of ‘community’ is a gradual process….
    Love your “park” writing!

As a fellow displaced N. Floridian (although only as far as Virginia), I look forward to reading your musings. I like the bit I’ve read so far.

    • Thanks for the thoughts everyone! I think Florida is a specifically weird place that shapes all of us who call it “home”. Our transplanted places have the double-resounding impact of at once changing us while at the same time pulling us to know our “old” selves better. Community and place are fascinating to me… I’m so grateful and happy to know I’m sharing this with others – and I’m loving reading from the experiences of others!

  4. I’ve been in central FL now for almost 20 years. I can’t imagine going back to a cold climate! But I do miss the seasons! 🙂

    • Thanks for stopping by, Linda! I think the strangest thing for me is the seasons… so much difference a tropical world makes to the passage of time, hey? There’s something nice about September and February being basically the same though… enjoy that sunshine 🙂

I imbibe words and consume past minds. As a result, I often awake next to strange sentences and forgotten meanings.
